iPod Nano gets video camera

iPod Touch, Classic and Shuffle ranges also revamped, and new iTunes 9 software released

apple-rock-and-roll

Apple has unveiled a range of revamped iPods at an event in San Francisco, including a new iPod Nano with a built-in video camera.

The new Nano has a built in camera and microphone on the back, and allows videos to be uploaded to Youtube via iTunes.

The display has been increased in size to 2.2inches. An FM radio is built-in, as is a pedometer that synchronises with Nike's online Nike Plus service and a voice recorder that uses the camera's microphone. 8GB and 16GB models will be available for £115 and £135 respectively.

The company also showed new versions of the iPod Touch, Classic and Shuffle. The iPod Touch is now available in 8GB, 32GB and 64GB models, with the 8GB version reduced in price to $199 – a price described by Apple's Phil Schiller as “magic” - in the US. In the UK it'll cost £149, with 32GB and 64GB versions for £229 and £299.

The iPod Classic, the last iPod to use a hard disk to store music and videos, has seen its capacity increased to 160GB for £189. The iPod Shuffle will be available in 5 colours, with a cheaper (£45) 2GB model available and a 4GB “special edition” version finished in stainless steel (£75). The standard 4GB model will cost £59.

The company also unveiled a new version of its iTunes media management software. ITunes 9 has a redesigned interface, more options for synchronising with iPod players, and supports extra content bundled with music albums and films. The iTunes LP system adds liner notes to downloaded albums, while iTunes Extras adds DVD-like extras to downloaded films.

IPhone and iPod touch apps can now be rearranged and managed from within iTunes, and a new sharing tool allows media files to be easily copied as well as streamed between up to five authorised home computers.

All the new iPods, and iTunes 9, are available immediately.

UPDATED: UK pricing added.

Mains Adaptor

Never mind cameras and other gimmicks it's a same that Apple doesn?t supply a main adaptor with their Nano's. I for one after buying many Nano's and ipod are feed up with Apple and their money grabbing antics. There supposed to be mobile devises but to charged them up you have to cart your desktop around with. When my current ipod touch breaks down it will be replaced with something from the Sony stables unless of course they don?t supply chargers either.
