Sky and Microsoft have signed a deal to give users of the Xbox 360 games console access to live football, TV and films.

The service, which will be available from the autumn, will let people watch live and on-demand programs via their Xbox without the need for a set-top box, satellite dish or subscriptions, through a number of different priced packages.

They will also be able to access shows on a pay-per-view basis and communicate with fellow Xbox players over their broadband connections. Sky said this would be beneficial for football fans, who would be able to discuss fixtures, league tables and so on.

Stephen Nuttall, director of Sky’s Commercial Group, said: “Xbox owners now have a range of ways to access Sky content and can pick and choose the platform and packages that are right for them.”

Although details of the full channel line-up will be revealed closer to the launch, Sky said people could expect to see content similar to that which is already offered on the existing Sky Player service on PCs and Macs.

Package prices are yet to be announced.
