New model available in the UK for £150, with a WiFi only version for £110
The online retail giant Amazon has released two new versions of its Kindle ebook reader, and is selling both from its UK store, Amazon.co.uk, for the first time.
The new Kindle is around 20% smaller than the last model, which we reviewed here, but has the same (6 inch) screen size.
Amazon claims that it is 17% ligher, with page turns that are 20% faster than the previous model and "50% better contrast than any other e-reader".
More importantly for the UK, however, it's now available from the Amazon UK store, so buyers don't have to import one from the USA.
Two models are available. The standard Kindle can connect to wireless networks or download books using a 3G mobile phone network - no contract or network payments are required. It costs £150. A model without the 3G connection costs £110.
Both will start shipping in August.
