Games will be shown free and live
The BBC is to World Cup football matches live on its website.
The corporation has the rights to televise 23 games in the group stages as well as in the later part of the competition, which starts on June 9.
All games shown by the BBC on television will also be shown live on the BBC World Cup website. However, the content will be limited by region, as with some previous BBC online offerings, so only UK residents will be able to watch the programmes.
The corporation has the exclusive rights to show England's games in the second round and the quarter-finals, should the team reach that stage of the competition.
The first game to be shown on the website will be Germany v Costa Rica on July 9, with England's match against Paraguay following the next day.
The matches will be streamed from the BBC website, and the commentary will be the same as that on the televised programme. Highlights from every one of the 64 matches in the tournament will also be available on demand on the website.
The BBC has already got the online rights to show the next two football World Cups, in 2010 and 2014.
