iPod owners to have legal choice at last
Apple is expected to offer UK iPod owners and music fans a bite of its online music service from next Tuesday.
The company has called a press conference on Tuesday 15 June, where it promises to reveal how "the biggest story in online music is about to get even bigger".
Apple's iTunes Music Store has been a success in the US but problems obtaining copyrights in the UK and Europe blocked it from opening here.
iTunes will face stiff competition in the UK as rivals opened their stores far earlier, with Napster the most recent to open its online doors.
The launch of iTunes will be of particular interest to iPod owners, who cannot play WMA files, the only choice available from other UK online music stores.
