Google reaches new financial deal with Performing Rights Society
Google has lifted the block it previously placed on music videos on its video sharing website Youtube.
The music videos were made unavailable to UK users back in March after the company failed to reach a new agreement with PRS For Music, formerly known as the Performing Rights Society.
PRS For Music collects payments on behalf of the musicians who make the music videos.
Today Google reached a new financial deal with the PRS. It told Computeractive it had paid a lump sum, and that the new licence covered the period from the January 2009 to June 2012. The amount paid has not been disclosed.
Patrick Walker, Director of Video Partnerships at Youtube, said the company is "extremely pleased to have reached an agreement with PRS for Music and looks forward to the return of premium music videos to Youtube in the UK".
Andrew Shaw of PRS For Music described the deal as "an achievement for songwriters, composers and the Youtube community".

Music video block back on
The music video block seems to be back on. I am getting the ?This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions? message again on some music videos.
