Norton has launched its first security application for Facebook and two standalone security tools to address the increasingly common menace posed by fake anti-virus programs and other infections.

Norton Safe Web for Facebook, which is currently in beta mode protects computer users by scanning their Facebook news feeds for malicious web addresses; and identifies risky sites before the user clicks through.

Norton Power Eraser identifies malicious programs that pose as legitimate ones such as fake anti-virus programs known as ‘scareware’.

Norton Bootable Recovery Tool is a tool that allows Norton users to boot a PC into a safe state when a system is so deeply infected that it will not properly start up.

Both Safe Web and Power Eraser are free for anyone to use but only Norton customers can use the recovery tool.
