UK spammer charged with further offences

More charges keep UK spammer in jail

The UK's most prolific spammer, Peter Francis Clifford Macrae, remains behind bars after being charged with further offences at Huntingdon Magistrates court.

Macrae, a 22 year-old from St Neots in Cambridgeshire, faced a long list of charges on Tuesday 14th December. These included blackmail, transferring criminal property, criminal damage and running a business for fraudulent purposes.

Macrae, who was charged on 30 November with making threats to kill, making offensive phone calls and threatening to burn a trading standards office, remains in police custody and will now appear before Peterborough Crown Court on Monday 20 December.

Macrae, aka Weaselboy, is the only UK resident listed on The SpamHaus Project's Register Of Known Spam Operations (ROKSO). This blacklist identifies the 200 people and groups purportedly responsible for the majority of spam.

Computeractive has followed his activities since summer 2003 and found he has been linked to various internet-based scams, among which is believed to be a link to a domain name reseller .eu Registry Services.

Both Cambridgeshire police issued a warning in January this year about this company, which was also ordered by the Advertising Standards Agency in December 2003, to stop sending emails implying it was accredited to offer .eu domain names .

Macrae is currently also the subject of an interim injunction brought by Nominet, the .uk domain name registry in the High Court. This prevents him from causing any damage to Nominet's computer systems, harassing Nominet staff, using the .uk WHOIS database, or sending any documents in the format of the 'Domain Registry Services' notices circulating earlier this year.
