Streamium updated but still no sign of Dab

Philips also launches Homeplug-type network devices and brings Ambilight to the PC

Philips has updated its Streamium Wireless Music System range.

The waCS7000 replaces the waCS700, doubling its hard disk capacity to 80GB, adding direct playback from USB drives and upping its encoding limit to 320kbps.

There's no sign of Dab and a Philips spokesperson rejected any idea of integrating it in the foreseeable future. The waCS7000 will, however, playback music from a Philips GoGear and iPod using an optional docking station.

The waK3300 is a smaller Streamium device designed for the bedroom that will wake you up to your choice of streamed music. Both are planned for a UK launch later this month but final pricing is yet to be confirmed.

The company is also joining the network by power cable revolution, announcing its Powerline range.

Similar to HomePlug and the Devolo, the Powerline creates a home network by pushing data around existing power cables in the home.

The SYK3600 starter pack will cost €89 and comes with two plugs. It has a maximum network speed of 14MBits/sec and is suitable for basic internet tasks.

For media-hungry users the SYK5600 starter pack will allow speeds up to 85MBits/sec. It will cost €129 with additional hubs costing €79 a piece. All will be launched in October

Finally, following the success of its Ambilight technology for flat-panel televisions, Philips is set to offer the same experience for computer users.

Currently in prototype design, the AmBX standard will bring ambient lighting to computer monitors to match the colours on screen, vibrating devices to mimic game action, air-motion manipulation and other effects for DVDs and music.
