Risk of electrocution from faulty adapter
Philips has issued a voluntary recall of the mains adapters supplied with certain of its portable DVD players and one of its photo frame models.
The electronics giant said it was found that in extreme cases the cover of these adapters may become detached, exposing live electrical parts. The identified defect only affects the mains adapter supplied with the products.
The company said it was issuing a voluntary recall and anyone who owns one of the products sold since July 2007 and July 2008 should stop using them immediately. The company advised checking the date code printed near the connecting pins after the adapter is disconnected from the mains.
If the code ends in 07 and 08 then the adapter is affected by the warning. People should call the relevant freephone number to obtain a free replacement. In the UK the freephone number is 0800 331 6050 and in Ireland it is 1800 818834.
The following models of portable DVD player are affected: PET716/05, PET716S/05, PET719/05, PET723/05, PET816/05, DCP750/05, DCP850/05, DCP951/05 sold since July 2007
The affected Philips Photo Frame is model 7FF2FPAS/05. Images can be seen on Jersey Trading Standards' website.
