BT is encouraging young people to join its Internet Rangers scheme and help teach older people about using computers and the internet.

On Silver Surfers' day, which takes place on 25 May 2007, hundreds of venues across Britain will be holding sessions at which older people can find out more about what they can do online.

In addition, Internet Rangers are being asked to get in touch with sessions happening in their area and volunteer to help on the day. Anyone can become a Ranger by signing up at the website for invitations and lesson plans.

The Silver Surfers' day website includes details of all events lined up for this year, and event holders can add details of new events as they become available.

Mike Hughes, head of the BT Digital Inclusion Campaign, said: "Digital exclusion is a serious problem, and as young people are often the experts when it comes to the internet, it makes sense for them to show the adults how it's done."

Last year, some 17,000 potential and active silver surfers attended the 500 events being held. Anyone interested in holding an event can find an information pack on the website.
