Trend Micro has released its 2009 internet security software.

Internet Security 2009 and Internet Security Pro 2009 both include anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, and anti-rootkit protection as well as a two-way firewall.

They also have a new web page and instant messaging (IM) rating tool, which can be downloaded onto the internet browser and alerts users to where threats are coming from.

For example, if a user clicks on the site a green tick will pop up in the toolbar to show the site is safe. If the chosen site is infected a red cross will warn users not to continue.

The feature also works with any instant messenger applications and warns people about attachments or links sent by others.

The new software also comes with a range of tools to protect people from data theft. The company said its Identity Theft Protection will give people more protection when they are buying online. This is because it sends encrypted data directly to the web browser instead of bypassing the operating system, where theft is more likely to occur.

The parental control tool has a data protection block. This is designed to keep people’s personal data safe by allowing parents to block certain pieces of information being typed into websites or on instant messenger conversations.

For example, credit card numbers can be blacked out when the user types it in, as well as telephone numbers and addresses.

The parental control feature also uses pictures instead of words, which Trend Micro said should make it easier for people to use. For example, users wishing to block their children from accessing the internet will be presented with a list of pictures depicting a young child, teen and adult.

Internet Security Pro lets users encrypt files and folders and comes with smartphone anti-virus. It also prevents strangers accessing a wireless network and allows people to manage the security settings on other computers on the network.

Internet Security Pro costs £55 for a one-year licence and Internet Security £45. They both come with licences for up to three PCs.
