Company vows to undo the damage caused by manufacturing processes
Processor manufacturer Via is set to launch what it calls the world's first carbon-free PC.
The company will offset the amount of carbon dioxide produced during the making of key PC components such as processors and motherboards throguh projects such as planting trees and advocacy of alternative energy sources.
The announcement comes as Computeractive launches its own Green Computing campaign, with a series of articles on sensible and practical approaches to power consumption and disposal of computing equipment.
We are also running a short survey on attitudes to green computing issues , so whether you think it's a myth or a pressing need, have your say here.
Everyone who completes the survey and enters their email address will be entered into a free draw for a pack of five educational and fun CDs, including Sudoku and the Concise Oxford English Dictionary.
Computeractive promises that email addresses will be used solely to pick a winner.
