Updated: readers report continuing problems with Sky Player on the Xbox 360

After a day of false starts, Sky’s Player on-demand television service finally arrived on the screens of Xbox 360 console owners last week.

Microsoft and Sky announced on 27 October that Sky Player would be available on the Xbox 360 console that day, but at the time of the announcement the planned technical demonstration was unavailable.

When Sky Player officially became available later that day, some users reported that they had initially been able to use it but were then cut off, while others were unable to connect and some couldn't even download the player application.

By the evening of 28 October Sky Player was available to some users through the Video Marketplace section of the Xbox dashboard. However, several readers contacted Computeractive to say that they were still unable to access the service, with reports varying from being able to use the Player application but not having a connection to the service, to not being able to download the Player application at all.

Sky Player offers Sky subscribers and new customers the ability to watch a selection of channels including Sky One, Sky Sports and Sky Movies. Sky customers who already pay for multi-room viewing or the most expensive broadband package can access it for no extra cost.

Other users can pay between £15 and £45 a month to access a selection of channels and on-demand programmes. The same set of login details can be used to watch Sky Player on the PC and on the Xbox, although only four devices can be registered for viewing at any time.

skybox(xbox sky channel)

dear microsoft , yet again you have dissapointed the world with your hyped up comments about how sky will be able to stream across xbox live , 1st you inform us about the launch date (promise broken) and now your going to charge us for the channels that you can get on a decent digibox or virginmedia for free (outrageoous). Playstation tv is up and running and its free, Playstaion live is free too. How do microsoft (probably the most loaded company in the universe) get away with charging us all the time for there services,if Sony can find it in there hearts to fund there online communities why cant you microsoft. we here in England all have to pay extortionate prices for a decent internet connection and on top of that the xbox subscription , the xbox games cost a small fortune and just as it seems all worth it with the release of sky player you want to charge us for it and it doesnt work yet,

Skyplayer working well

Installed skyplayer on my Xbox 360 early Sunday Morning. ( 1st November ) Still working extremely well with no hickups. My 360 is connected through my router via RJ45 network cable instead of wireless. This may make a difference. I also have Sky Broadband which is running at 16Mb / 20Mb.

Not quite there yet..

I think you'll find there are still issues with skyplayer on xbox, not everyone has access to it yet, a week after launch!

Still Waiting

I tried first thing this morning, and there's still no sign of Sky Player on any of the Xbox Live menus. Even the original apology has disappeared, and I'm frustrated by the deafening silence from both Sky and Microsoft on this issue. No updated information has been made public (to my knowledge) since the 27th October.

Sky Player for Xbox not working!

What are you on about? The Sky Player is still not working for the majority of people! According to Sky's website they are rolling the service out in phases, which isn't ideal as we have spent alot of money on hardware! Sky, Microsoft when will the service actually be up and running?
