Avid Technology is selling its Pinnacle PCTV line to rival Hauppauge Technology.

Pinnacle PCTV is a range of consumer HDTV receiver cards for computers and other products.

It currently includes the PCTV HD mini, Pro and Ultimate Stick digital TV tuners.

Avid's chief executive, Gary Greenfield, said the company would now focus on software applications.

He said: "PCTV is a compelling standalone hardware product and a better fit for Hauppauge. "

Hauppauge develops PC-based TV tuners and data broadcast receiver products.

The companies said in a joint statement that they would work closely to “ensure a smooth transition for distribution partners and users before Christmas”.

Avid said it would continue to support customers with the PCTV to go, Soundbridge, Showcenter and Pinnacle Video Transfer products under its current terms and conditions.

However, once the deal has been closed, Hauppauge will take full responsibility for customer support and after-sales services for all PCTV products. It said it would work out the exact terms and conditions of future customer support within the next few months.
