Samsung's latest mobile phone, the Nexus S, will run the latest version of Google’s Android operating system (OS).

The Samsung phone will be the first Android device to run Gingerbread, the 2.3 release of the OS. The phone is certainly a looker, having a curved 4-inch Super Amoled touch screen.

But it's more than just a pretty facia; having a I GHz Hummingbird processor, front and rear facing cameras and 16GB of internal memory.

Gingerbread is also, according to Google, the fastest version of Android yet. Improvements include refinements to the user interface, near field communication support, a new keyboard and text selection tool, internet calling (VoIP/SIP),, improved copy/paste functionality and gyroscope sensor support.

The phone will go on sale from 20 December at Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy. Sim free the price for the phone with this retailer is £549.95 and operators appear to be offering various tariffs with the phone free from about £35 per month.
