Logitech unveils wireless speaker adapter for laptops at CES

Logitech has developed a wireless speaker adapter for laptops using Intel's wireless display (Wi-Di) technology.

The adapters, being launched at CES in Las Vegas today, will allow anyone using a laptop with Wi-Di to stream audio to their existing stereo speakers. Logitech claimed users would get better sound quality as well as being able to move the laptop around a room.

Mark Schneider, Logitech's vice-president and general manager audio business, said: "Intel's Wi-Di technology is quickly becoming the standard for wireless audio for laptops.

"Now thanks to Wi-Di technology and the Logitech Wireless Adapter for Intel Wi-Di devices, it's easy to turn up the volume while you're listening to Pandora [internet radio] or watching a Youtube video. And you can do it with the speaker system you already own."

The company also developed a wireless sound system for smartphones or tablets. The Logitech Wireless Speaker Adapter for Bluetooth will let people stream music or other audio from these devices to favourite speakers.

In addition, the company's HD Pro Webcam C910 is now compatible with Apple Macs. This 10-megapixel device offers features such as one-click upload to Facebook, Twitter or Youtube, and allows full 1080p HD video recording and free video-calling with the Logitech Vid video calling app. The Mac software for the HD Pro Webcam C910 can be downloaded free.

The speaker adapters are expected to go on sale in May but pricing has yet to be announced. The webcam is available now priced at around £90.
