SP1 for Microsoft's operating system improves the HDMI audio connection
Microsoft has announced the first major update to its Windows 7 operating system.
Service Pack 1 (SP1), which is available to download from today, includes a number of updates. Microsoft said Service Pack 1 also includes a number of smaller updates.
Improvements included in Windows 7 Service Pack 1 include improved HDMI audio connection. A small percentage of users have reported issues in which the connection between computers running Windows 7 and HDMI audio devices can be lost after system restarts.
Updates have been incorporated into SP1 to ensure that connections between Windows 7 computers and HDMI audio devices are consistently maintained.
A download of SP1 can be accessed through the Windows Update application in Windows 7 or downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center.
The Microsoft Windows blog advises that home users use Windows Update instead of downloading the standalone installer (or Network Installation Package) from the Microsoft Download Center.

No problems with the SP1 update.
I had no problems either downloading or installing the SP1 update. However I did take the precautions of running disk cleanup, disabling real time protection of my AV, performing a clean boot, creating a restore point and creating a disk image before starting the download.

Windows 7 SP1 problem
I downloaded Windows 7 SP1 using the Windows Update facility. Left click no longer opens any type of file (right click & open is OK), it responds with "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or,if already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control Panel. I understand that the problem is with the .lnk association. I downloaded a registry fix from winhelponline.com and tried merging the extracted file, but it refused to merge saying that there were open keys. I did a system restore and left click is working again. Any ideas? Thanks.
