A monitor billed as the "flattest" screen in the world is among the new models announced by manufacturer LG at technology trade show Cebit today.

LG E2290VThe E2290v shown at Cebit is a 23in widescreen model in the 16:9 aspect ratio and is able to show 1080p high-definition video in full, with a resolution of 1,920x1,080 pixels.

At its thinnest, the E2290v measures just 7.2mm. It will cost €329 (£280) and is available now.

Other announcements the company made at the pre-show conference in Hannover, Germany, concerned two 23in screens, which will use IPS (in-plane switching) screens.

These are designed to give higher-quality pictures than older screens which typically use TN (twisted nematic) display panels.

The IPS236V is being aimed at home users. It has an HDMI socket for connecting Blu-ray players or games consoles, while the IPS231P is designed for office users, with a Vesa connection for wall-mounting, and an adjustable stand.

Both will cost €249 (£211) and are available now.

A final 23in model, the D2342P, can display video and games in 3D, as well as standard pictures. Available in June, it will include one pair of 3D glasses and a clip-on adapter for a pair of spectacles. It will cost €299 (£253).

All four monitors will use LED backlighting.
