Cisco to pull out of consumer market – handheld camcorder to be scrapped

Though popular, Cisco's Flip camcorder has lost out to smartphones

Cisco has announced it will not longer manufacture its popular Flip digital video cameras.

The company said it was refocusing its business and pulling out of the consumer electronics market. Although a popular product, analysts said the Flip has lost ground to smartphones over the last few months.

Once Cisco no longer supports the product, it will be hard for customers to get devices repaired if found to be inherently faulty, but they would still have rights against the retailer under the Sale of Goods Act.
