The Internet Service Providers' Association (ISPA) is asking the public for nominations for this year's Internet Hero and Villain awards.

Previous recipients of ISPA's internet industry awards have included Peter Mandelson (Villain) for introducing the Digital Economy Bill and Tom Watson MP (Hero) for voting against this controversial law.

This is the first year that ISPA has asked for nominations from the public. Although the council of the trade body for internet service providers will choose the winners, ISPA told Computeractive that: "This year we wanted to involve the public and get some suggestions from them as to who they would like to see crowned Internet Hero or Villain.

"The ISPA Council will consider all the suggestions and then decide on a shortlist, which we will announce next week."

The Internet Hero category is awarded to an individual or organisation in recognition of their achievements for the internet and the internet industry.

The Internet Villain category is a lighthearted award presented to an individual or organisation in recognition of their achievements in hindering the industry.

So the ISPA asks, "Are Talktalk and BT deserving of a hero nomination for taking the Digital Economy Act to a Judicial Review" or "has speculative invoicing of alleged file sharers", such as that carried out by ACS Law, worthy of a villain nomination?

People can either email their choice (awards@ispa.org.uk) or tweet their nomination to ISPA using the hashtag #ISPAs up until 23 May.
