Consumer Choices, the price-comparison website, has developed an interactive high-definition (HD) television coverage tool that shows consumers the HD services available in their area.

People using the price comparison site's HD Coverage checker enter their postcode and are given results for local exchange, cable and Freeview availability, as well as satellite services.

The free tool also shows the specific HD services available at a consumer's address, the number of standard and HD channels, the pricing of all the major suppliers and a list of alternative suppliers.

It also allows customers to toggle between transmitters and see the distance and signal reliability of Freeview HD within their area, and it shows which standard-definition services consumers can use.

Additional information provided by the checker includes switch-over dates by area for Freeview and Freeview HD services. People can also check how far a transmitter is from their home and how reliable the signal will be.

Simon Piper, of Consumer Choices said: "The growth of HD TV has been phenomenal. With more and more households able to get Freeview HD, as the rollout continues, and with upcoming events such as the Olympics to watch, the demand is only going to soar.

"We are thrilled to be the market leaders in providing our consumers with Britain's first ever comprehensive and accurate Freeview HD availability tool that is designed to guide customers through the potentially confusing options. There is a real opportunity for them to save time and money by using the right tools."
