AVTech's security camera links to phones and tablets

Get notifications and video on iPhone, iPad, Android and more

A network webcam that will send notifications to iPhones, iPads and Android devices

Editor's note: this article was changed on June 15 to show the correct UK pricing.

A new security camera will let users get notifications and alerts on their iPhone, iPad, Android and other mobile devices.

The AVN80X from Taiwanese firm AVTech is a networked camera that is designed for home monitoring. It is wall-mountable and can be connected either to a wired or wireless home network.

The AVTech AVN80X cameraOnce set up, it will automatically record when it detects motion and send an alert to the owner or another person. The company has developed apps for the iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, and other models, which receive the alerts through 'push' notifications and display them to the user. The user then has the option to go from the notifications, which the company calls Push Video, and view the video the camera has just taken.

The AVN80X can be linked up to other security devices such as door alarms, as can be seen in our video above.

The camera can be set up using the iPhone or iPad apps so the user doesn't need to have a computer, but the video and alerts can also be viewed on the web. The iOS and Android apps are available through the App Store and App Market respectively, while software for other mobile devices will be available from the AVTech website.

Software for Mac and Windows computers will come with the camera, which is expected to cost around £150 when it goes on sale in the UK later in the year.

AVTech was showing off this and other security cameras at the Computex Taipei 2011 trade show.
