The Android app for Virgin Tivo TV service lets people record programmes remotely

Virgin Media has developed an app for Android devices that gives people using the company's TV services even more flexibility.

With the Virgin app customers can browse the TV guide to see what's on over the next seven days. And if they have they have the company's new Tivo-based TV service, they can remotely set recordings from their mobile device.

The Tivo offers not only live and catch-up TV but also web-based and on-demand services.

Alex Green, Virgin Media executive director of commercial TV and online, said: "We think Virgin Media's Tivo service is the best way to watch TV and our new mobile app enhances that experience by ensuring you'll never miss recording a programme whilst out and about.

"Our Tivo service already offers the most flexible and comprehensive recording options and features, which this new service complements."

The free app can be customised by the user to create a list of their favourite channels. As well as being able to keep up-to-date with what's on, the app also gives a detailed synopsis for each programme, and users can share information on what they're watching with friends and family by text or email.

The app, which is free, can be downloaded from the Android Marketplace. Virgin said the app would be available for the iPhone soon through the App Store.
