Wrenz prepares to make your gadgets sing like a bird

Portable bird-shaped speaker coming soon to a cage near you

The Wrenz speaker is shaped like a hummingbird

A Singaporean company is promising to make our portable music players sing with Wrenz, a speaker shaped like a bird.

The Wrenz speaker from Gavio is a small palm-sized device that plugs into any device that has a standard headphone socket. It's powered by a mini-USB connection and has a separate socket for sound input. All cables are supplied in the box.

According to the designers, it will work for up to nine hours on a charge, and the speakers can be 'daisy-chained' to link several of them to play in unison. The company is pushing the eco-friendly credentials of the Wrenz, which is supplied in a bio-degradable box.

The speaker's design is based on the hummingbird. It's not clear when it will be available in the UK but the company told us it expects to sell the Wrenz speakers here for around $89 (£55) each.

It was on show at the Computex Taipei 2011 trade show earlier this year. To see more of our reporting from Computex, click here.
