Computeractive's editor explains our campaign and how you can enter or nominate a friend for our awards

Most people need a little help and advice when they first start to use a computer.

Inevitably, Computeractive readers tend to be the friend, relative or neighbour that people turn to for advice on everything from choosing which computer to buy to solving problems. Our readers have helped people across the country get to grips with Windows, discover how to set up email and web access and begin to create and edit their own documents.

We think it is high time that the help people have given to others was acknowledged. Computeractive's Home Computing Heroes campaign will celebrate the ordinary people up and down the country who make a real difference to those less experienced than themselves.

How to enter or nominate a friend
Entry is by email, and entries should be addressed to editor@computeractive.co.uk.

Your story should explain how you have helped family members or those in your community, and how this has made a difference to their lives. If you are nominating someone else, please tell us how their help has improved your skills, and what a difference it has made to you. Try to keep within 300 words, and feel free to attach a photograph of yourself or your nominee.

We will feature some of the best stories here and in the magazine and on our website, and the winner will be chosen in November.
