Pre-orders are now being taken for Sony's Tablet S.

Buyers will be able to play original Playstation games as well as those certified for Playstation devices. The tablet uses Android's Honeycomb 3.1 operating system, has a 9.4 inch HD display and weighs just under 600g.

Personal photos and video content can be streamed from the device to some internet-connected TV sets and devices.

Music can also be streamed to wireless speakers and the Sony Tablet S includes infrared technology, meaning it can be used as a fully customisable remote control for multiple home devices including your television, Blu-ray disc player and home theatre setup.

The tablet also features feature front and rear-facing cameras for still and video-image capture. The USB2 port and SD card slot simplify direct file transfers from other devices such as PCs, digital cameras or camcorders.

The Tablet S will cost from £399 for the 16GB version and £479 for the 32GB model and will be available in the UK in mid-September. The 16GB 3G model will cost from £499.

They can be pre-ordered from Sony, Currys and PC World, with the 3G version available from October.
