Amazon confirms three new ebook readers and a new tablet
Amazon has announced four new Kindle products; three ebook readers and a tablet computer.
The first new Kindle is a replacement for the current standard model and will cost £89 and will launch on October 12.
Unlike previous models, the new Kindle only has one button and no keyboard; it also only has 2GB of storage space (around 1,400 books) rather than 4GB found on the previous Kindle model.
It weighs considerably less, at just 170g, compared to around 240g. It will be available only as a Wifi model with a battery life of around one month.
The previous Kindle models have been renamed Kindle Keyboard and Kindle Keyboard 3G and will continue to be sold at the same price.
Also announced was the Kindle Touch, which has a touchscreen for easier navigation; the Kindle Touch will be available in Wifi and 3G models. Price and availability of the Touch is yet to be announced for the UK.
Finally, Amazon unveiled its new tablet, the Kindle Fire. The 7in tablet has a full colour screen and 8GB of internal storage. The Kindle Fire will launch in the USA from 15 November for $199. No UK details have been announced yet.
