Within hours, Microsoft released an update to address the issue

Microsoft inadvertently removed the Google Chrome web browser from people's computers over the weekend, having mistaken it for malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Essentials Tools falsely identified Chrome as part of a password-stealing Trojan.

In an update on its security site, Microsoft said Google Chrome had been "inadvertently blocked and in some cases removed." Within hours the company released an update to address the issue.

Microsoft has asked anyone affected to update Security Essentials in order to restore Google Chrome.
