Nokia trials free Wifi

Initial trial of 26 hotspots starts today, with more to come in early 2012

Nokia Wifi hotspots
The free Wifi is available to anyone and will work on any Wifi enabled device

Nokia is bringing free Wifi to London with a trial of 26 hotspots in selected locations across the capital.

The two-month trial, which starts today, will see areas such as Oxford Street, Tottenham Court Road and Victoria Station. The free Wifi hotspots can be found by using Nokia Maps.

The Wifi hotspots are being housed in existing telephone boxes owned by Spectrum Interactive. The trial will look at how consumers use the free Wifi service and how popular it is. A full roll-out across London is planned for early 2012.

The Wifi networks being used will support access speeds of up to 20Mbits/sec, however users will be limited to 1Mbits/sec download and 0.5Mbits/sec upload. The service is free to use and requires users to accept terms and conditions before being given internet access.

Nokia told us that the service would not limit the amount of data downloaded and would offer complete access to the internet and would work on any Wifi device.

The initial trial will be available in Oxford Street, Tottenham Court Road, Bloomsbury, South Kensington, Knightsbridge, Mayfair, Lancaster Gate, Bayswater, Westminster, Sloane Square, Victoria and Marylebone.

different limits

Hi JDP I take your point. What we meant was that there is no limit on the amount of data that can be downloaded even though the speed is limited. I've amended the copy to make this more clear. Kind regards Tim

question

"requires users to accept turns and conditions before being given internet access." Do you mean terms and conditions?
