Assange loses battle in High Court

Julian Assange has lost his appeal against extradition to Sweden but can still submit an appeal against this decision to the Supreme Court.

The founder of Wikileaks has been fighting against a European arrest warrant issued by Swedish prosecutors that will force him to return to Sweden for questioning over alleged rape and sexual assault.

Although he has not been charged with a crime, Assange has effectively been under house arrest since the beginning of the year fighting against the warrant. Today however Lord Justice Thomas and Mr Justice Ouseley rejected all of the defence's arguments and ruled that the warrant and subsequent proceedings were "proportionate".

Assange's defence team now has 14 days in which to seek permission from the High Court to appeal the decision and take the case to the Supreme Court
