Communications company says service offers higher upload speeds than rivals
BT Retail has expanded its BT Infinity broadband services to include an ultrafast conncection offering download speeds of up to 100Mbits/sec.
The headline speed from the internet service provider (ISP) now matches that offered by Virgin Media's fastest connection but BT said it also offers upload speeds that are 50 per cent faster.
The BT Infinity Option 3 is based on fibre that goes all the way to individual homes but can only be accessed from a limited number of exchanges and areas that have been upgraded by BT Openreach to get fibre to the home.
So initially customers in Highams Park and Leytonstone in London, Ilford in Essex, Ashford in Middlesex, Forest Hill, Chester, York, St. Austell and Exeter will be among the first to have the opportunity to subscribe to the service.
BT, which is investing £2.5bn in the fibre infrastructure needed for next generation broadband, has already speeded up the rollout of the technology. It said that around two-thirds of UK homes and premises will have access to its fibre-based services by the end of 2014; a year earlier than the original target.
The company said that it is also hoping Government funds will help it reach areas of the UK where the demographics mean a commercial rollout would be uneconomic.

you may sing and dance with your mega fast internet speed, but what about ensuring that customers, in rural exchanges, struggling to recieve even 2 mb are catered for?

It still wrong as br is still pulling in grants for this fibre and millions of people are still on standtard bb connection and when u need help they say sorry we are not doing any repairs to standard adsl connections we are sorting out finer now witch this it's time 2 to ask parliament to stop there funding and have br found it there selfs because the have a lot of money because the are the people that rack it in my self is classed as being a br customer and for some reason contested to O2 at the exchange and have a talk talk telephone conection but all billing go to bt and have used a lot of mac codes a saying not valid and next min I find bt trying to discounted be for mac been able to be used now for computer active. I keep bots of what I say on comp active page and my views never get read or upload to ur page 4 some resin I will be uploading this copy full content to other forums so user can read them as u keep blanking a loyal user and subscriber but if to used this time u will lose out
