A year of Google searches in the UK, featuring Kate Middleton, truffles and the iPad 2
The past year in Google search has been revealed as part of the annual Google Zeitgeist.
The 2011 Google Zeitgeist reveals the most popular Google searches in the UK over the last twelve months. Topping the list was the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, with the iPhone and iPad 2 also featuring. The 'fastest rising' people included Adele and Amy Winehouse, along with Steve Jobs and Charlie Sheen.
Google's 2011 Zeitgeist also revealed what people in the UK wanted to know. Top searches for ‘How to...' included revise, draw, sleep, flirt, pronounce and wallpaper. The most searched for ‘What is...?' list was topped by ‘What is AV?' with ‘What is scampi?' in second place. 4D, Apple iCloud, truffles and piles also made an appearance.
The top searched-for travel destination was Las Vegas, with New York and Disneyland Paris making up the top three.
Kim Kardashian, daughter of American attorney and businessman Robert Kardashian, topped the celebrity top 10, followed by Victoria Beckham, Emma Watson and Scarlett Johansson. The X-Factor and The Apprentice topped the list of TV programmes searched for in 2011.
The Google Zeitgeist is published every year, taking a global and regional look at what people are searching for online.
For those wondering what scampi is, it is the tail of a langoustine or Norway lobster, roughly the size of a crayfish.
