Crucial speeds up Windows 7 with Adrenaline Cache Solution

Solid-state memory that learns which files you use most often and speeds up Windows 7 launch

Crucial has launched a new type of solid-state drive (SSD) that makes it simpler to enjoy the benefits they offer.

The company's Adrenaline Cache Solution device for Windows 7 computers enables users to get faster Windows start-up times by copying boot files and launching them faster than is possible from a mechanical hard disk.

Adrenaline also learns which files are in use most often, creating a copy for faster retrieval - a process known as caching.

The product simplifies the benefits of an SSD because in order to get faster start-up times, users have to move their operating system files from the main hard disk to the SSD.

The Adrenaline Cache Solution SSD still has to be installed inside a PC case but after that no further configuration is required. The SSD needs to run the operating system a number of times before it learns which OS files to copy.

UK pricing was not available when the company launched the product at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, although an announcement is expected by spring.

Crucial also unveiled a new range of memory modules for desktops PCs at the event. The Ballistix range offers improved performance for all types of tasks, from every-day computing to power-hungry applications such as video editing and gaming.

The Ballistix Sport is suitable for most types of user while the Tactical and Elite models offer greater performance for those with the technical knowledge to tweak advanced configuration options.

Jeremy Mortenson, Crucial's senior product manager, explains the benefits of all three models in our video (above).
