Search engine will feature the work of small charities to help raise their profile
Bing, Microsoft's search engine, has launched a campaign that will let people highlight the work of their favourite small British charity; many of which work on behalf of causes that never hit the headlines.
With more than 187,000 registered charities across Great Britain, and around 13 million Bing users, the Help Your Britain campaign aims to help these small organisations, which have limited resources, reach a wider audience.
The current economic climate means that nearly seven in 10 charities expect their financial situation to suffer and Peter Maxmin of Bing said: "The campaign aims to give these organisations a helping hand in difficult times and we look forward to receiving nominations from the British public for the other causes."
The campaign kicked off yesterday featuring the work of Magic Breakfast, which provides breakfasts to underpriviliged children in primary schools. Another four charities will be showcased during the rest of the week. Another children's charity, Lifelites, is featured today.
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday three other causes, User Voice, Life Cycle UK and All Dogs Matter will have a day on the home page
Over the longer term, the campaign will feature a different charity on the Bing home page on the last Friday of each month. It will be able to showcase the work that it does through videos and articles. People will also be given information on how they can support the charity either by donating, volunteering or offering other contributions.
Anyone who wants to nominate a charity will be able to do so on the final Friday of each month by clicking on the 'Nominate your charity' button.
"Charities will be chosen by the Bing panel, which will be looking for amazing stand-out work that smaller charities are doing for Britain. The charities that we're looking for will have limited awareness in the UK so if people can think of any amazing candidates in their local communities they should let us know," Maxmin told us.
