Vimeo video-sharing website update offers better search options

Vimeo says it is letting users focus on video first with its new website design

The new Vimeo website
Vimeo is popular with people who want to share short film projects

Video sharing website Vimeo has launched a new-look website, with a larger video player, improved navigation and better user privacy.

The redesign has better search filters to help users find more relevant videos. Among other improvements, results can be organised by length, credits and copyright licence. The redesign also includes a new section that enables users to browse videos that are subject to Creative Commons licences.

A new feature for suggesting related videos based on previous user activity has also been added. The recommendation system works by gathering information from other clips people have ‘liked' when using the site.

The main video player has seen an upgrade and is now twice as big as the previous version. Vimeo said the new design let users focus on the video first.

New privacy settings include an option to keep video statistics and account activity private. Users can also now upload multiple files at once and will receive alerts if there are upload problems before the process completes.

The website is currently invite-only and interested users can find out more on the new Vimeo website.
