Tom Tom car insurance rewards 'good drivers' with lower premiums

A new insurance policy uses a Tom Tom sat nav to reward safe and sensible driving

Tom Tom and Motaquote have launched a new type of insurance that rewards ‘good' drivers with lower premiums.

The scheme, called Fair Pay, uses a customised Tom Tom Pro 3100 to collect information about how someone is driving, including harsh cornering and sharp breaking. The company claims that live feedback will help price a policy according to driving ability, rather than postcode, gender, age or vehicle type.

Fair Pay said that if someone believes they are a ‘good driver' they will get the benefit with lower premiums. Feedback is provided to the driver in real-time using a combination of the Tom Tom sat nav and a tracking unit fitted into the vehicle. Information can be viewed online, including journey details and driver behaviour.

Thomas Schmidt, managing director of Tom Tom business solutions said that the move could help create "greener, safer driving".

Insurance by Sat Nav, sounds good

I get free insurance via motability but I would still like to use one of these to wind me in as I do get excited when driving sometimes espescially if a fast record comes on the radio or some idiot cuts me up and speeds off.

TomTom and 'good' drivers.

Is this for real? I presume only 'good' drivers are likely to sign up for this, and people who do not care a jot for there privacy? A bit like logging your own speeding offences really!
