Users of Facebook in New Zealand can pay a small fee to promote a post
Facebook is trialling a new system in New Zealand where users can give their posts more prominence if they pay a small fee.
The Highlighted Posts system was flagged up by New Zealand news site Stuff, which had first believed it to be a scam.
However, Facebook confirmed to the site that it is genuine and one of a number of options the social networking site is trying out so people can promote their posts to family and friends.
It told Stuff that: "We're constantly testing new features across the site. This particular test is simply to gauge people's interest in this method of sharing with their friends."
People can pay for promoting posts using Paypal or credit or debit card but it is not clear if Facebook intends to adopt this system in other countries such as the UK.
