Peers will hear evidence on superfast broadband plans

The House of Lords Communications Committee is to quiz telecoms experts about several superfast broadband issues tomorrow.

Andrew Barron, Virgin Media's chief operating officer, and Steve Robertson, former BT Openreach chief executive, will be two of the witnesses giving evidence in in three sessions.

Issues to be covered include topics such as broadband demand and access, infrastructure and service provision, and what, in practice, it would mean for the UK to have the best superfast broadband network in Europe by 2015.

The Committee will also question Chi Onwurah, shadow minister for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and former head of International Technology Strategy for Ofcom.

The evidence sessions will take place at 3.15, 4.00 and 4.45 respectively on Tuesday 22 May in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords. The sessions will also be webcast live on parliament tv
