Smartphone security for Android is now available for half the price, Norton and Carphone Warehouse have announced.

An agreement between the two companies will see Norton Mobile Security offered at £14.99 when bought with any Android handset. The smartphone security software is normally £29.99.

Norton Mobile Security includes a feature to remotely lock and wipe an Android smartphone if it is stolen. This means personal information can be removed from a device, preventing thieves from using it.

Malicious apps can also be detected since anything downloaded to the device is scanned before it is installed.

The news comes after a fresh batch of rogue Android applications was uncovered. Fake versions of games such as Angry Birds, Assassins Creed and Cut the Rope were costing unwitting users an average of £80 as hidden malicious software sent and received premium-rate text messages.
