Microsoft asks people to 'save the date' as Windows 8 gets ready to launch

Windows 8 launch confirmed
Start counting down the days...

Microsoft has announced that Windows 8 will launch on 26 October.

At an annual sales meeting Microsoft's Steven Sinofsky said that Windows 8 would be available as an upgrade or on a new PC.

Earlier this month Microsoft's Tami Reller told attendees at the Worldwide Partner Conference that Windows 8 would be available in October, but stopped short of giving a specific date.

The announcement comes after Microsoft lifted the lid on Office 2013, the latest version of its productivity suite.
