The Trust, which funds internet-based projects for vulnerable and disadvantaged people, said entrants need to submit images and a short explanation which shows what the internet means to them and how it has made a difference to their lives.
Annika Small Nominet Trust chief executive said: "Whether it's helping to improve health, education or employment prospects, reducing feelings of social isolation, helping us to campaign for good causes or championing democracy across whole nations, the internet has opened up a wealth of opportunities for individuals, communities and organisations the world over.
"This national competition presents a fantastic opportunity to really get people thinking about and celebrating the opportunities the internet presents in a creative way. Entering couldn't be easier and so I'd urge inspired individuals to get clicking and take part.
People need to upload their image to Nominet's Digital Planet page on blipfoto by 3 August 2012 when the competition closes.
Visitors to the site will be encouraged to vote and a shortlist will go before a judging panel which will decide the overall winner
