Introduction
There are many ways to sell a mobile phone but one of the easiest is to use a website that specialises in recycling mobile phones. Old handsets are refurbished and sold on, making sure they don't end up in landfill sites. It's good for the environment and you can often get hundreds of pounds for an old mobile phone. In this step-by-step guide we will show you how to go from beginning to end and recycle your mobile phone for cash.

Step 1
Go to the Top Dollar Mobile website. Using the dropdown menu, select the manufacturer of your mobile phone. In the field immediately next to it enter the model name if you know it as this will help Top Dollar Mobile narrow down the range of phones for you to choose from on the next page. If not, just click the orange button labelled ‘Find Phone'.

Step 2
Top Dollar Mobile displays a list of handsets that match the information you supplied in step 1. Locate your mobile phone, making sure you have selected the right version. The price label beneath each model shows the maximum fee that Top Dollar Mobile will pay for that phone. Click the orange button labelled ‘View Details'.

Choose the mobile you want to sell

Step 3
You need to provide some basic information about the handset, such as whether it is locked to a specific mobile network and whether the phone is broken. Top Dollar Mobile will accept phones that have broken or leaking screens, and those that where the speaker or handset do not work. But phones that have been crushed or damaged by water cannot be sold. If you declare that the phone is in working order, it should have no major scratches, should turn on and off and have a battery. Select the options (which show the corresponding price Top Dollar will pay) and then specify the number of handsets you have to sell. You will need to add the IMEI number for each handset. To find this, dial *#06# into the handset; then the IMEI number will be displayed. With those steps complete, click the blue button labelled ‘Add to basket'.

Step 4
Back at the top of the screen you will find your Basket - move the mouse pointer over the basket and a panel will appear that displays details of the handset(s) you wish to recycle and the fee Top Dollar will pay. Click the green button labelled ‘Checkout'.

Step 5
At the Top Dollar Mobile checkout page you will need to create an account if you haven't done so previously (this is a secure page). Now enter your personal details.Create an account at Top Dollar

Step 6
Now add your bank details - again noting that this is a secure page. Select your preferred method of payment - remember that if you choose to receive a cheque, £1 will be deducted from your payment.

Step 7
Enter your email address and choose a password (safe passwords should be a mix of numbers, letters and symbols so no one else can guess them). Click the box to agree to Top Dollar's terms and conditions and click the green buttom labelled ‘Continue' Top Dollar Mobile will send you a confirmation email and will send you a prepaid envelope to send your handsets. Remember to erase any personal information from the handset and to remove the SIM card and any memory cards. Put the mobile phone into the trade pack envelope and pop it in a post box. Top Dollar will pay for your mobile phone within five working days of receipt. If any of the details you supplied are subject to query, Top Dollar will contact you.

Best Prices, Best Service IMO

I have sold my phones a few times with these guys through sellmymobile.com, and have to say for an "unfamiliar company" ie, not your likes of o2, Vodafone, Orange etc - they were incredible. They paid the price I was quoted (I have read other companies knock the price down), and they paid quickly.

Recycling comparison sites are useful

An old blog post but even more relevant today. The phone recycling industry in the UK has got bigger and bigger over the past few years and is now starting to really take off in America thanks to recycler comparison websites such as http://www.sellmycellphones.com which is a fantastic thing. The more we recycle the better our world will be.
