Huawei said the phone was designed for smartphone newcomers, with a specially designed interface called HAP 5.1. The company said using the phone would be "more intuitive".
Behind the simplified interface the phone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, giving it full access to the myriad of apps in the Google Play store.
The Huawei Ascend Y 201 has a 3.5 inch screen with a resolution of 320x480, a 3.2MP camera. It has an 800MHz processor and comes with a 4GB micro SD card but can support cards up to 32GB for more storage space.
Such specifications make this a low-end budget phone that is being aimed squarely at beginners. The Huawei Ascend Y 201 is available now from Tesco Mobile.
