WH Smith is offering its customers free Wifi access in 603 of its high street stores across the UK.

The service will let people browse the internet but the retailer hopes customers will also use its landing page for special offers and to compare prices as well as test out the full features of the Kobo eReaders it sells.

With around six in 10 people using mobile internet while shopping, according to findings from Device Research in February this year, the retailer's Wifi service will be provided by The Cloud.

Ian Sanders, group business development director, at WH Smith said: "The internet allows us to provide a lot of extra information that was previously unavailable in-store, for example in-depth book reviews, product lists or search functions.

"It's about bringing the high street and online together in a way that works for our customers. Our customers can use our services specifically or they can browse the wider internet. Ultimately they get an enhanced shopping experience and that benefits everyone."

People can check out WH Smith's website to see which stores will have the free service and when.
