Anonymous gives New Year's message: Expect more cyber warfare

Just like Arnie in The Terminator - hactivist group warns it will be back in 2013

Anonymous posts warning statement that it will not disappear this year

Anonymous has warned that just like The Terminator, it will be back, and soon, so those on its radar had better watch out.

On 22 December 2012, the hactivist group said it was going after HSBC and it warned "We'll be doing this to a new target on the 22nd of every month. Join in the fun."

Anonymous first started making headlines in 2006 but has gained genuine notoriety in the last two years. Last year its cyber warfare targeted companies, governmental and law enforcement organisations around the world.

At the end of December security firm McAfee said Anonymous was guilty of launching too many "un-coordinated and unclear operations". McAfee said this would lead to a decline in the decentralised hacking group.

Such attacks included those launched against British internet service providers such as Sky, Virgin Media, Everything Everywhere and BT for following court orders to block access to file sharing site, The Pirate Bay and Newzbin2

But a video Anonymous has posted online showing some of its exploits over 2012, including its attack on the US Department of Justice, FBI and Syrian Government's websites along with its latest statement show the hactivist group isn't planning to disappear without a fight.

"We are still here. Corrupt governments, organizations, corporations...Expect Us."
