Is it a phone? Is it a tablet? Huawei has made new ground in the battle to have the biggest, shiniest smartphone with a new 6.1in Android device.

The Huawei Mate boasts the largest screen of any smartphone in the world. The almost tablet-like device has a whopping 6.1in screen, making it even bigger than the already massive Samsung Galaxy Note II. The screen also works with gloves, a feature we've seen before in the Nokia Lumia 910.

The Android user interface has also been given a tweak, with Huawei's 'emotion' UI making things a bit shinier and cleaner. On the Huawei Mate the interface has been tweaked to make it easier to type and make calls using just one hand, which can often be troublesome on larger smartphones.

There is also support for multi-tasking, so windows can float on top of each other. A similar feature can be found on the Samsung Galaxy SIII.

Once again the price, release date and other details of the Huawei Mate were kept quiet. The company did say that it would be available from March this year.
