Q My computer crashed and I lost all my data but luckily I had backed up everything on CDs. I don’t know what to do with these discs.

When I put the first CD in the drive Windows asks me what program created this file. I cannot remember what program it was.

MM Qureshi

A Without knowing the three-letter code at the end of the files on the CD (also known as the file extension) there is not much help we can offer, apart from pointing out to other readers that you need to know what to do with a backup should the worst happen.

Hopefully there will be some installation discs for the backup software, and once installed on the computer there should be an option to restore the files.

Otherwise you may be able to find out the software needed to recover the files by entering the three-letter file extension in the search box at filext.com.
