PC help: Worm attack

Deal with malicious programs

Q On running some anti-virus software I was warned about a program called svhost.exe.

It seems to be taking a lot of the processor time in Device Manager and the computer seems slower. Is this really a problem and how can I remove it?
John Burrows

A You are right that this is indeed a malicious program, although it is classified as a spyware worm rather than a virus.

You should try and remove it as it may steal personal information and will impair the performance of your computer.

The easiest way to do this is to run a full scan of your computer with both anti-virus and anti-spyware software. If you don’t have either of these you can find our recommended software at www.computeractive.co.uk/staysafe.
