The USB Snakescope is by far the strangest webcam we’ve looked at, and we’ve looked at some quite strange models, including one that was designed to look like an octopus.
It consists of this handle here and a long flexible cable, with the actual camera at the other end.
The cable can be twisted around, but it’s quite hard to move, which is good in a way. because it means the camera stays in place once it’s been set.
It has to be said: we’re not entirely sure what the point of all this is – you can use it for looking around corners and past doors where you’re not wanted, but beyond that it’s not clear.
Still, video quality was fairly good and there’s an adjustable LED lamp on the end – the control for that is on the main handle – which means it can be used in now light.
Also on the handle is a small button which snaps a picture when it’s pressed. Here's a sample of what that looks like:
